Paul Rand

Untitled 1

Paul Rand was very well known for being an American graphic designer but best known for his creates of corporate logo designs, he was known as one of the biggest designers of his time and still is a idol to look up to as a designer. By his work still being used it is justification that he was a great designer and remebered for this. His logos that he designed for such companies as 'IBM' still look fresh and concise on the brief he was given.
The reason Paul Rand stood out to me is because eventhough his designs were made in the 1950's to /70's they are still as said "fresh" his simplistic designs remind me of some of Olly Moss's designs and how they haven't over complicated anything.

“Should a logo be self-explanatory? It is only by association with a product, a service, a business, or a corporation that a logo takes on any real meaning. It derives its meaning and usefulness from the quality of that which it symbolizes. If a company is second rate, the logo will eventually be perceived as second rate. It is foolhardy to believe that a logo will do its job immediately, before an audience has been properly conditioned.”

When reading this quote which Paul Rand said and explained within it made me think that the company has to be as big as the logo itself. Such as the Quality of something has to meet the heading given to it.

Paul Rand's work that carries on and logos that are still around are: Ford, ABC and IBM

Another part that caught my eye about paul rand is how he had fun with his ideas... and was very literal about his idea.
